Greeting all Mite Families,
Tomorrow is our last day of warm-up/evaluation sessions. By the end of day tomorrow, teams will be posted and practice times for the next weekend and beyond will go up as well.
For our new players/Mini-Mites….tomorrow is a big day as well. It’s your first Ice Session at 11am at Gustafson Phalen Arena.
What to expect:
A bit of controlled chaos is normal. Also, we share the ice hours, so you will see another group on the other half of the ice.
Learning to skate is a new and sometimes scary thing for the kids. They all progress at their own pace…..and that’s ok!
We have a great head coach that has been heading this group for years and years. His name is Don “Sully” Sullivan.
Sully will need help on the ice.
Helpers should be 18 years or older.
If your player is a young 5 or under...it is strongly, strongly suggested someone come on the ice with them.
This is the tricky part….only one parent or guardian can be in the arena per skater. Including Ice helpers.
This is a learn to skate/hockey group….there is no intensive one on one training.
If you plan to come out with your child….you have to have skates and a helmet. No one can go on the ice with shoes or boots. Also, any helper on the ice has to wear a face covering or mask.
The players do not need to wear them on the ice...unless you as a parent want them too. These rules are in accordance with MN Hockey and Ramsey County Covid Protocols as well as the Covid plan of JCNSP.
Players must come as fully dressed as possible. You can wait on helmets, gloves, and skates.
Players must wear a mask, anytime, when not on the ice.
Other than that I urge you to read through the Mite Warm-ups and Evaluation Protocols Here.
It lays out what the process is everyday.
It’s a crazy year but we are committed to having this activity for the kids and doing it in the safest way possible. Thank you for your help and patience.
Oh, one last thing….Hockey is Fun….so you are required to Have Fun!!!!
Greetings all. We have one day of skating this weekend. Sunday November 15th. The warm-up/evaluations have gone very well so far. The ice hours this weekend will allow us to finalize some things. The groups have changed a bit so please read through the list.
Also starting this weekend....the Mini-Mites!!! Your first ice hour is this Sunday the 15th at 11am. Another email will go out this week with some more insight on the first day. Please watch for it.
All previously communicated Arena Protocols are still in effect.
Here are the groups and ice times for all other skaters.
See you all soon.
Before we get into the details of starting the Mite program this year....I want to take a moment to thank you all for your patience and understanding. This is an unprecedented year with many unknowns. Everyday has been a new piece to an ever changing puzzle. Recently, we received word that a policy change with Ramsey County would allow for a Mite parent to stay in the arena with their child during practices. We will touch more on that later, but this ultimately means we can now move ahead with things. Whew!
Please read everything below as these are IMPORTANT pieces of information.
So to get right to it. This weekend, on November 1st at 9:40am we will have a Mite Open Skate/Warm-up. This will be a coach controlled event. THIS IS ONLY FOR RETURNING MITES THAT WERE MITE 1, 2, or 3 LAST YEAR AND/OR are ready to move up from a previous year of Mini-Mites. This is not a mandatory skate time. If your child can't make this hour, don't worry about it. Ice time is at Gustafson Phalen Arena.
From there we will progress into the next weekend with some more Warm-up/Evaluation Skate times that will be posted later this week.
Mini-Mites/New Mites will start November 15th at a time to be announced shortly.
Now for the fun stuff.....and we will send out a more detailed message about this later...but to give you an idea.
It should be noted that these rules, and any others we post, are not open for discussion. I hate to be blunt about it but these are rules in accordance with Ramsey County Arena Policy as well as Minnesota and USA Hockey. This is what we all have to do to give hockey to the kids this year. I understand the challenges it brings. Please understand the end goal is to have hockey for the kids. It should also be noted that these rules are constantly being reviewed and could change one way or the other at anytime.
Players can enter the building no more than 15 minutes before ice time.
All players must come with as much equipment on as possible. Exception for skates, helmets, and gloves.
All players must have a face covering/mask on at all times when not on the ice.
Anyone coming into the arena must have a face covering/mask.
HERE IS THE BIG ONE: (this was a recent change we are happy about)
ONE parent or guardian can enter the arena with a Mite player to assist in equipment needs AND That ONE parent can also stay through practice time, while wearing a mask and socially distancing.
Players and parents will be screened before entry and attendance documented for possible contact tracing purposes.
Those are the main parts for now. Again we will send out a more detailed message with everything to be aware of this weekend and those going forward.
One final note. For any player that was a Mini-Mite last year, and wishes to remain in that group this year, please email me and let me know. We don't want to assume a player is moving to another level if they or you are not ready for it. JCNSPMites@gmail.com
That's it for now. I know you may have some questions about things. Feel free to ask. In some cases, like wanting more information about how the rink experience will be....I ask that you hold off until we can get a more comprehensive message out.
Thank you for your time. Stay safe. See you at the rink.
